A product of big oil, Calgary was a low key prairie town until sometime in the 1950s. With the oil boom, over a few decades, Calgary became Canada’s 4th biggest city. The modern downtown skyline as risen along with oil prices – its clean, structured look speaks to the character of the city. Oil aside, Calgary is still diversified in its virtues. Right near the foot of the Canadian Rockies, the city is a great starting point to epic wilderness. Calgary also maintains a bit of that Wild West feel, and is home to the world’s biggest stampede. I don’t think Calgary is “Cowtown” anymore, and perhaps that name has lost a bit of its meaning over the years, but here she is: short and sweet: Calgary.
