The Great Wall of China is an amazing feat in construction; you could argue one of humanity’s greatest all time building achievements. Most of the parts still standing today were built starting in the 1300s under the Ming Dynasty to keep nomad Mongols out of China, but it’s construction has really been a concept that has flowed throughout Chinese history, for thousands of years. Some still view The Great Wall as a symbol of Chinese resistance to outside influence and change. A part of history engrained in the Chinese psyche, perhaps. That’s hard to picture though, with China’s rapidly advancing economy, not to mention the thousands of tourists walking these walls. 6000km of wall, 2000 years of construction, and one of the most famous landmarks on earth, the Great Wall of China.
