Rome
The Eternal City, Rome. Center of the western world for many centuries, and still center of the Christian world still today. Throughout the millennia, some of the world's greatest artists have come to Rome to aid in the creation of one of the greatest cities of all. The ancient remains from the classical Roman era from around the first century AD (see the Pantheon and the Coliseum) are still scattered about the city. In later eras, such as the Renaissance, it was Rome's designation as the capital of Christianity that allowed the city to expand and become a cultural hub. Since World War II, Rome has suddenly become a trendy world tourist attraction, for its history, architecture and religious landmarks.
