Over 1.8 million Hamburgers live in Hamburg. They're everywhere. That makes Hamburg one of Germany's largest cities, 2nd biggest by city limits, 5th biggest by metro area. It's also Germany's biggest port, one of the 10 largest in the world. As Germany's trade capital, the architecture and city layout reflect this: canals are dispersed amongst the city center, and the early 20th century brick warehouses remind me of the old exchange district of my hometown. Though you won't find any beef patties on a bun in this city, you'll find tons of other interesting stuff: churches that have withstood the bombardment of the second world war, festivals, beer, and a giant lake right in the middle of this city. As the trade capital of one of the world's largest exporters, Hamburg was bound to be interesting.
