Cold, Crisp Air.

Can you feel it in your lungs?

Fall, and Nuit Blanche

Fall

We seem to associate Autumn with its colors as the foliage turns from green to shades of yellow, orange, red and brown. Its an incredible display in color coordination that nature puts on for us once a year as those of us in the temperate parts in the world prepare for winter. Here’s a few from Assiniboine Park here in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg is an okay guy.

If you could personify this city, that’s what you’d say. Some colorful captures as an August sun sets in downtown Winnipeg.

Shooting sunsets

An important rule of photography has always been to pay close attention to your lighting. The best time of day to maximize the color and the vividness in captures is often in the golden hour before sunset (or just after sunrise for the earlybirds). With the sun at your back, you can produce saturated and detailed exposures that normally wouldn’t ‘pop’ out during noon hour’s harsh lighting. Opposingly, shooting flat into the sun will produce dramatic, contrasty images that usually have dark silhouettes with little detail, but surrounded by vivid oranges and blues. Long sunsets have returned to the north, happy shooting.

Don’t let this be the end.

Hoodie weather is here, after what was the nicest summer in recent memory on the central prairies. I can’t remember a summer with more gorgeous blue skies, more epic sunsets, less annoying insects, or more exciting happenings. Summer came up big for us, and deservedly so.

I hope you can check back soon for frequent updates from another continent. I’ll be in 13 locations across 4 countries in Asia over the next 31 days, in a trip I’ve been looking forward too for quite a while. I leave behind a city that I’ve fallen back in love with this summer. Winnipeg, I’ll see you in a month. Here’s some leftovers from this summer in around these parts.

I can’t always have my camera with me, but its amazing what you can capture with a camera phone these days. Sunset on a late night cycle.

Men and their toys.

Another cell phone capture. I’m impressed with what can be done with such a tiny camera sensor!

Some urban wildlife.

Dog days!

A storm rolling in…

While I’m here, I’ve added some more captures to my swelling Winnipeg gallery. It now contains 237 images…time for a reboot!

Perspective Distortion

With a field of view of exactly 180 degrees, the perspective can get a bit interesting (and distorted). Carful not to get your feet in the frame.

Serenity on Lake Winnipeg

2011 has given us the nicest prarie summer we’ve had in a few years.  The days are so long and warm that the passage of time seems to have slown down, such a contrast from the dark and cold days of winter. Here are a few summer hues.

Dip your feet in.

What if I can't tell where the water meets the sky?

Gazing at the Galaxies

1.21 Gigawatts

Last week it was fireworks, this week it’s electric sparks flying through the air. It didn’t take nearly as much effort as it did last year to get that other picture of mine, but I figured it worthy nonetheless.

Welcome home, hockey.

Enough said.

Explosions in the Sky

Kicking off summer: fireworks celebrating May’s long weekend in Winnipeg. I had a good view.

Extended winter

A few to share from Winnipeg this extended winter season. As usual, I’ve added them to my Winnipeg gallery.
