Winnipeg

Winnipeg, "The Gateway to the West", is at the eastern edge of the vast North American prairies. At the meeting of two rivers, known to Winnipeggers as The Forks, Winnipeg became a focal point in the incorporation of western Canada. In the late 19th century, Winnipeg became Canada's economic boomtown thanks to the Canadian Pacific Railway that placed it at the center of the North American transportation hub. We can now thank this boom for Winnipeg's fine collection of pre-20th century architecture.

These days, Winnipeg is known for its harsh winters and beautifully sunny summers. A vibrant exchange district, the historic "Forks", Assiniboine Park, and the colorful Osborne Village are some of the unique amenities offered by Winnipeg. Being so close to the Canadian boreal forest, massive lakes with great beaches, and great canoe routes means that there is plenty to do just outside the city limits as well.
